Position: Process Improvement Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC Area

The Process Improvement Engineer will be responsible to monitor, analyze and enhance manufacturing operations to improve process efficiency, quality and cost. A thorough knowledge of manufacturing practices is necessary.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Develop, audit and enforce employee conformance to standard work.

  • Report production status, attainment and obstacles in daily manufacturing meetings.

  • Recommend and/or initiate short-term and long-term solutions in production crisis-management and reaction plans

  • Lead shift-to-shift transition meetings, communicating critical plans and details.

  • Provide data and insight on new hire training and progression

  • Conduct independent and collaborative “testing” on production equipment to enhance efficiency and quality relative to the scope of new processes and products.

  • Manage projects to promote and implement departmental continuous improvement for corrective actions, preventive measures, 5-S, safety and work flow

  • Analyze and address cost drivers such as variances in production, scrap, downtime, equipment utilization and material usage.

  • Advise PC in raw material flow, Kanban arrangement, machine availability and scheduling.

  • Represent manufacturing in Product Line Team activities and support initiatives

  • Organize and prepare manufacturing for PSO’s, PPAP’s APQP and customer visits

  • Oversee departmental training, orientation and progression of new associates

    Production/Administrative

  • Generate technical and summary reports to upper management

  • Monitor SAP transactions, scanning and labeling for accuracy, and resolve related procedural, hardware and/or software issues.

  • Create and/or confirm accurate documentation for production, set-ups, quality standards and deviations

    Quality

  • Direct immediate containment and inspection activities for product and process non-conformities.

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement countermeasures to resolve internal and external quality issues

    Review, sustain and analyze Synergy statistical data to determine conformance to specifications

    Desired Skills and Experience

    Job Requirements/Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Four year degree in business or engineering

  • 3 or more years of process improvement expereince in an automotive manufacturing environment

  • Strong SPC (Statistical Process Controls) skills

  • Familiar with APQP, PPAP and third party certification criteria (ISO 14001, TS1 6949)

  • Proven problem solving/trouble shooting skills

  • Strong decision making skills, mathematical skills, written and oral communication skills

  • Strong organizational and multi-task skills

  • Proven ability to coach, mentor and motivate production associates
