Sr. Process Engineer, Advanced Composites

The Overview:

Our client is one of the fastest growing engineered material manufacturers in the world.  They have a broad and diverse portfolio of engineered polymers and resins sold into nearly every industry imaginable.  The organization has continued a significant upward trend in growth over the last 3-4 years and is poised for one of their best years yet.  This division manufactures out of autoclave thermoset composite components for a wide variety of industries including wind energy, transportation, heavy truck, automotive and other industrial applications.  The company runs a full new product development cycle on most of their new programs, so they are a high-value, custom engineered solution provider to the industry.  They have a compensation and benefits plan above market average and do an excellent job creating an employee-centric culture.

The Role

The Sr. Process Engineer will work on a small team and lead new process development efforts for new products and programs.  This person will create and implement the process mapping, tooling, material specifications, management and all process mapping/documentation for all new products in the facility.  In addition, the Sr. Process Engineer will support all new and existing workflows for continuous improvements. They will also be accountable to projects, mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers and generally acting as the "go-to" manufacturing engineering resource on the floor.

The Requirements:

In order to qualify for this role, you must have a 4-Year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and at least 5 years of hands-on process engineering experience with out-of-autoclave composite parts.  This could include, closed molding, RTM, compression molding, pultrusion or other continuous processes using thermoset resin systems.  You must also have solid communication, technical writing and team-oriented skills.  This role reports to the Engineering Manager and will be accountable for coaching, mentoring and developing other, less experienced engineers on the floor.  You must also be able to qualify for ITAR projects which restricts this role to US Residents and Citizens.

This role is in Birmingham, AL.   With a metro-area population of over 1.1 Million, Birmingham offers a large metropolitan area with a small-town feel.  Birmingham is home to 5 Fortune 1000 companies, the University of Alabama Birmingham and several both historical and cultural attractions.  Birmingham is one of the fastest growing areas in the Southeast US with excellent climate and tree-blanketed terrain.  They have an annual average climate of 64 degrees so if you are looking for somewhere warm and sunny, with practically no snow, this would be a good decision. Birmingham offers plenty of things to do with the family and offers close access to the Gulf Coast and Florida panhandle beaches.  The suburbs of Birmingham provide a lot value in home prices, excellent schools and a low crime rate. The Birmingham area is reputed to be the home of some of Alabama's best high schools, colleges, and universities.  Families can go and enjoy the Birmingham Zoo which has over 700 animals and the Alabama theatre which hosts film screenings, concerts and performances. Birmingham has much to offer from their numerous festivals to their abundance of museums such as the Birmingham Museum of Art to their vintage motorsports museum.
